“Miles” of railroad track, and more than 25,000 people watching from the sides of the roadbeds. Tiny little plastic roadbeds, and Styrofoam hillsides, and isolated small towns. Really small towns.
This past weekend the Amherst Railway Society conducted its annual Railroad Hobby Show at the Eastern States Exposition Fairgrounds in West Springfield, Massachusetts.
It’s a great event for fans of model railroads, and historic train travel, to see exhibits that stretch through four exhibition buildings. On site are dealers, craftsmen, artists, and hobby clubs.
Proceeds from the ticket sales are used to promote interest in railroads. Donations have been made to various rail museums, historical societies, restoration projects and scholarship funds.
It all began as a small model railroaders’ club in the 1960s. Now, it’s a world unto itself. If you missed it this year, don’t worry. It will come around the loop again. Model trains always do. Have a look at this website.
