Here is the Lincoln Covered Bridge in Woodstock, Vermont. These photos were taken before Hurricane Irene, but the bridge is still safe and standing, as it has since it was built in 1877.
Interesting website for covered bridges. Out of curiosity, I looked at the covered bridges in Mass. Not too many. It seems that the ones in the worst shape were the most recently-built ones. Must have been built by the same people that work on the South End Bridge.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots--I was especially interested by the joinery in the third photo. Nice to see one of the beautiful old bridges that stood up to the storm!
ReplyDeleteHi, John. Yes, fortunately most of Vermont's something like 100-plus covered bridges are still standing. I like to inspect the joinery in the bridges. The outsides are pretty, but inside you sense the mystery and the history,and the ghosts of the men who built them.
